L’« apartheid de genre », une notion forgée dans la douleur des femmes afghanes et iraniennes
"Apartheid de genre," a term originating from the experiences of Afghan and Iranian women, refers to gender-based oppression akin to racial apartheid. The term emerged in feminist circles after the Taliban's initial rise in 1996 and gained wider usage after their 2021 return to power and the 2022 "Femme, vie, liberté" movement in Iran. Since 2023, an international campaign seeks to recognize gender apartheid as a crime against humanity, supported by Nobel Peace laureates Shirin Ebadi and Narges Mohammadi.
